Furthering Our Commitment to Change

After watching Greta Thunberg vehemently demand change from our world leaders and seeing how many millions of people turned out for climate strikes around the globe, I feel more empowered and inspired than ever.  Yes, the science and data is scary and yes, it’s easy to say it’s all up to big business and government to turn this thing around.  But I truly believe that collectively, if we all commit to change, open our eyes, live mindfully and with awareness, we are capable of moving the needle in the right direction.

Zucchini Pineapple Bread with Cream Cheese Glaze

I know it’s the first week of fall and everyone is living that Pumpkin Spice life, but I want to show some love to the unsung hero of the harvest season – zucchini!  It packs just as much moistness (ewe, but what other word is there?) for baking and because I planted them this summer, I have about 386 of them so I’m trying to use them in as many ways as I can.

It’s a Randall Takeover!

Are you guys nervous about transitioning to 2 kids, and how does Bea feel about it?

Nervous? Hahaha, no, why? Do I look nervous? I’m just a… sweat beads? No, it was a, it was a spicy ummm, I was just at the gym see, and umm you know what, yeah, it is hot in here. Whew, hahaha, I thought it was just me. Is that a window over there? Can we get that open?

Maintaining My Summer Glow and Hydrating the Bump

I refuse to use the F word just yet.  It’s still summer, and I plan to live my best beachy/lake life for as long as the temps allow. I have thoroughly enjoyed this summer.  Bea time, down time, reading, swimming, naps and all the snacks.  If the weather was nice, we were outside.  ALWAYS with major SPF on, but I can’t lie, I love the look of a healthy glow.

September Is The New January

Post- Labour Day weekend always feels like the start of a new year for me, more so than January 1st.   Fall is in the air, school starts up again and for those of who work in TV it marks the start of a new season.  With the fresh-start feeling of September I’m setting some intentions (I don’t really do resolutions) for the coming months.

DIY Seed and Bean Bag Pillows

Randall once did a pillow count between our house and the cottage and I’ll admit, the number was a little absurd.  I can’t help myself, I just love pillows!!  I spotted a pile of feed/seed/bean bags at one of our favourite vendors at the annual antique show the family goes to in Michigan and immediately knew it wanted to turn them into pillows for the cottage!

Cast-Iron Cheddar Jalapeno Cornbread

It’s BBQ season and we can’t stop, won’t stop.  In my opinion, nothing pairs better with BBQ than cornbread.  This sweet and salty, crispy, a little spicy and cheesy cornbread is the perfect side dish to anything you’re grilling.  It also makes an amazing breakfast bread the next day topped with a sunny-side-up egg.

Baby G2 Update

I am just over 18 weeks pregnant, which is almost halfway through this pregnancy, which is TOTALLY crazy.  My girlfriend warned me that this pregnancy would go much faster and because I’m already so busy with Bea, and was she right.

A Look Back At Our Wedding(s)

RG and I will be married 5 years on July 30th!  It’s been a wild ride filled with adventure, change and small bumps along the way.  I’m so proud of us as a team and the life we’re building as a family.  We’re different in a lot of ways; we have strengths and weaknesses that compliment each other. But on the big things we agree nine times out of ten. And that was especially evident when it came to planning our wedding.

You Asked, I Answered!

First of all, if I haven’t said it enough, I absolutely love engaging with all of you!  Your questions and comments and tips are always supportive and kind and so helpful.  And since I can’t always answer all of your questions via dm, I thought an “ask me anything” would be a fun way to answer what you want to know.  So here it goes!

Big Girl Bea Turns 3!

I know the years go by fast.  And kids grow up.  And babies don’t keep.  But I really can’t believe my sweet Bea is 3!  3 years ago I met her for the first time.  3 years ago she changed our whole world.  3 years ago I became a Mom to the sweetest, kindest most gentle (most of the time) little girl.  It’s so funny how many of the things people tell you about kids come true.  I was so excited for her to learn to walk and be able to talk.

The Family Graham is Growing!

Want to know who the first person we (ahem, RG) told we were going to have a baby?  BEA.  The morning we found out, he told our very chatty toddler a secret we needed to keep under wraps for months.  I highly recommend not doing this as toddlers loveeeee to tell all to anyone at any moment. I got home from work that day and she ran to the door and proclaimed “Mama I’m going to be a big sister!”

10,000 Changes

My sweet Bea loves the great outdoors as much as I do.  The natural world is a place of wide-eyed wonder and it brings me so much joy to watch her marvel in it. This past weekend she saw her first monarch butterflies and still hasn’t stopped talking about it. It’s one of the great privileges of being a parent; seeing the world through the eyes of our children. And it is my sincere hope that she gets to experience that same joy with her children and her children’s children.

Annual Family Antiquing Adventure

Every year on the first weekend in June the fam takes a road trip to Midland, Michigan for their annual antique festival. It's one of my favourite weekends of the year.  The excitement of the treasures we could find.  The hotel pizza party.  Pool beers.  And of course, pro tips from Johnny's Good Junk.

Why Intermittent Fasting Works For Me

This year’s Oscars was the first time in all the years I’ve been covering it (save for my preggo year) that I didn’t put myself on some kind of strict diet beforehand.  My post-baby year I logged every single thing I ate into an app for months.  Carbs were a hard no.  I skipped out on dinners with girlfriends.  And I was really unkind to myself if I “slipped.”  None of these diets were enjoyable and none of this made me feel good.  So this year, I said no more hard restrictions…
